Hillsborough junior defensive end Jordan Sherit landed his seventh Division I scholarship offer and his third from the Southeastern Conference when South Carolina made him a pitch, Terriers head coach Earl Garcia announced Monday.
The Gamecocks follow Auburn, Purdue, Duke, Miami, Vanderbilt and the University of South Florida who have made the 6-foot-4, 230-pound Sherit offers. Sherit, who is enrolled in Hillsborough’s International Baccalaureate program, is enjoying a break-out season this fall and is arguably one of the most improved players in the county.
Entering last week’s playoff game over Largo, Sherit led the Terriers in tackles (90), sacks (8), and fumble recoveries (3) and knocked down three passes. He also plays tight end and is the squad’s long snapper on special teams.
Sherit and Hillsborough take on nationally-ranked Armwood in the second round of the Class 6A playoffs Friday in Seffner.
