Hillsborough junior defensive end Jordan Sherit landed his sixth Division I scholarship offer and his second from the Southeastern Conference when Vanderbilt University made him a pitch, Terriers head coach Earl Garcia announced Tuesday.
The Commodores follow Auburn, Purdue, Duke, Miami and the University of South Florida who have made the 6-foot-4, 230-pound Sherit offers. And considering Vanderbilt is arguably the most prestigious school in the SEC academically, Sherit could have serious interest in that school, as well as another institution known its academics first and athletics second, Duke. That’s because Sherit is in Hillsborough’s International Baccalaureate program. He is also one of the most improved players in the county this season and one of the most dominant at his position.
Entering the final week of the regular season, Sherit leads the playoff-bound Terriers in tackles (77), sacks (8), and fumble recoveries (3) and knocked down three passes. He also plays tight end for Hillsborough and had a 25-yard touchdown reception Friday and is the squad’s long snapper on special teams.
