Hillsborough senior wide out/defensive end Dixon Phillips has received his first official college scholarship offer, from Division II St. Cloud (Min.) State University, Terriers coach Earl Garcia said Monday.

The 6-foot-4, 200-pound Phillips, who holds a 4.0 grade point average, is expected to take an official visit to the school Jan. 15. Although St. Cloud is a D-II university, it has more than 20,000 students, making it the largest school in the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system. The Huskys are best known for their men’s and women’s hockey programs but they’ve put several players in the NFL. Among them is quarterback Todd Bouman, who has played for the Minnesota Vikings, New Orleans Saints, Green Bay Packers, Jacksonville Jaguars and, most recently, the Baltimore Ravens in 2008.
Other former St. Cloud State players with NFL experience include Keith Nord, Ben Nelson and Jeff Hazuga of the Vikings, Harry Jackson (Green Bay) and John Kimbrough (Buffalo, New England and Oakland).
