Hillsborough County School’s athletic director Lanness Robinson submitted an appeal to the Florida High School Athletic Association Wednesday morning regarding the state’s new football district assignments.
On Dec. 15, the FHSAA released the football districts for the 2009 and 2010 seasons. A number of county schools were placed in new districts, some with opponents several miles apart. For example, Wharton was placed in Class 6A District 6, which includes North Port High, a school 95 miles away.
“We have schools in districts that require major travel,” Robinson said. “We’ll appeal so district assignments are based on geographic alignment.”
Robinson said the appeal could affect seven county public schools.
Regarding the two public schools opening in the county this fall – George Steinbrenner High School in Lutz and Strawberry Crest in Dover, Robinson said the FHSAA “is considering them in district play.”
Berkeley Prep athletic director Bobby Reinhart said the school will appeal being placed in Class 2B-District 5, which includes two Orlando teams and Cocoa Beach High. Tampa Catholic was also placed in District 5, but TC head football coach Bob Henriquez said the school will not petition the change. Cambridge Christian will not appeal its reassignment as well.
Schools will have until noon Friday to submit written requests for reassignment to a different classification and/or district. The final district football assignments will be announced later this month.

Jimmy; stop whining. Plant plays the toughest schedule every year. Last yr they were in class 4A but played 3 or 4 5A teams. Stop with the recruiting crap, its getting old. players all over the state and country play for schools they want to but they move into their district. lets move on. we have the best football in the state here in florida, enjoy it and stop being a little Bi@#&%.

When I say “they” I mean the people at FHSAA. Is that better for ya kid. I don’t care if they have ties or not, they do know about Plant I bet with all the recruiting complaints they receive on a yearly bases.

THEY? Who is they? The people up there at the FHSAA office that have absolutely no ties to Plant HS whatsoever?
use your common sense idiot: Based on these appeals, Alonso Chamberlain Gaither and Plant will end up in the same district. Freedom Riverview Tech Newsome Plant City will Hillsborough County’s conservative bureaucrats will ensure that Plant and others travel as little as possible.

With the recent announcement of budget cuts in education, I wonder how much more it will cost for buses, gas and drivers for these far away games? This is just another example of the idiots we have running things. Cut teachers pay or the amount of money spent on a student and then turn around and pay more for a football game? The 3 stooges must be running the FHSAA

Let’s take a look at the Class 5A.
How in the he11 did Plant get in such an EASY district? Freedom, Riverview, and TBT? Are you kidding me? Then you have Chamberlain, Alonso, and Gaither all in the other district? I guess the want Plant to have a cake walk every year to win the districts. What a joke.

Tech is MUCH better than sorry Gaither or mediocre Alonso. Chamberlain loses a hell of a lot. The best two teams in 5A from HC next year will be Plant and Tech. Plant would probably much prefer to be in district with Gaither and Alonso then Tech. Now granted, Riverview is down and Freedom is middle of the road.
