University of South Florida senior WR Jessie Hester said he suffered torn ligaments in his left ankle in Saturday’s scrimmage.
Hester, who was at USF’s practice Wednesday, said he’ll have to wear a cast on his left leg below the knee for four-to-six weeks.
“It’s very disappointing [missing the rest of spring], you always want to compete,” Hester said. “I got my foot stuck in the ground and it rolled up in an awkward way.”
Hester was especially disappointed that he wouldn’t be able to continue to participate in new offensive coordinator Mike Canales’ offense.
“He [Canales] expects a lot of big things out of us and we feel the same way about him,” Hester said. “He brings a great weapon to our offense with his ability to call plays. I want in the fall to have an opportunity to perform.”
Hester didn’t have a timetable on his exact return, but expects to be ready to play in the fall.
