UPDATE 1: Center Fielder B.J. Upton, who suffered a bruised bone when hit by a pitch in a minor league game yesterday, said he will have to take it easy for the next couple of days. He said the setback probably firms up the target date for his return to the lineup as the regular season home opener April 13. There was an outside chance he could have returned from off-season shoulder surgery for the season opener April 6 at Boston.

PORT CHARLOTTE—Good morning from Port Charlotte, where there is a touch of cool in the air. Marc is supposed to be off today, but I think he’s actually driving back from Fort Lauderdale, where yesterday’s Grapefruit League game against the Orioles was rained out.

I just heard that today’s home game against the Yankees is sold out. David Price, James Shields and Andy Sonnanstine are all pitching for Tamap Bay, although Shields and Sonnanstine will be pitching on a back field for Class AAA Durham in a minor league game.

Before I get to the lineups, let me throw out a reminder that tonight’s World Baseball Classic semifinal between Team USA and Japan (8 p.m.) will have three Rays involved. Japan has second baseman Akinori Iwamura and USA has relief pitcher J.P. Howell and just-added third baseman Evan Longoria. Longoria will back up David Wright.
