Although he had “preliminary discussions” with Countryside assistant principal Lewis Curtwright, Tampa Catholic head football coach Bob Henriquez says he is not interested in taking the same position at Countryside and has officially withdrawn his name from consideration.

After being prompted by individuals associated with the Cougars football program, Henriquez said he did send Lewis a resume and biography. But after “careful consideration and soul-searching,” Henriquez sent Lewis an e-mail Tuesday requesting to be removed from Countryside’s list of possible candidates. The Cougars job became available earlier this year when John Davis resigned to take the post at Clearwater Central Catholic.
“Early on, there were a lot of folks calling me saying ‘At least consider it,’ said Henriquez, a TC graduate. “But it never really went much farther than that. If I’m going to coach high school football, I can’t imagine doing it anywhere else than Tampa Catholic. I thought about it a lot and I know my heart is with Tampa Catholic.”
Countryside is expected to make an announcement soon on who Davis’ replacement will be, Henriquez said.
