DETROIT Geetings from the Motor City, where it’s gray and humid and the Rays and Tigers are set to start a three-game series tonight.
Top pitching prospect Jeremy Hellickson is in the clubhouse and said he’s starting tomorrow night, meaning that fifth starter Wade Davis is skipping at least one start and that the Rays will have to make a roster move.
Davis and Jeff Niemann were seen in St. Petersburg today by Dr. Koco Eaton for shoulder soreness. It’s possible that one or both could go on the disabled list - there may be more to report after manager Joe Maddon’s pre-game media availability.
Hellickson, who was outstanding in his major league debut last Monday, said he doesn’t know anything beyond the fact he is pitching tomorrow.
The Rays will try to break a season-worst five-game losing streak with ace David Price on the mound. Maddon’s lineup has a new twist - Carl Crawford battiing third rather than second.
Here is the lineup:
John Jaso, C
Ben Zobrist, 2B
Carl Crawford, LF
Evan Longoria, 3B
Willy Aybar, DH
Dan Johnson, 1B
Matt Joyce, RF
B.J. Upton, CF
Jason Bartlett, SS
—
David Price, LHP (14-5, 2.82)
