Andre Gunn, a first-team offensive lineman on the Tampa Tribune’s all-Hillsborough County football team, underwent successful arthroscopic surgery Tuesday to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, Gunn’s father, Carlton Gunn, said.

The surgery was performed by Dr. David Leffers, a noted Tampa orthopedic surgeon who has been the Terriers’ team physician for several years. The 6-foot, 290-pound Gunn tore the ACL last month playing basketball at a local recreation center. He is expected to be out of action for the Terriers’ spring dills and jamboree but hopes to return in time for summer conditioning. In the meantime, Gunn will begin rehabilitating the knee next week.
Gunn is already one of the area’s top recruits at offensive lineman. Among other colleges, he has received interest from Alabama, Duke, Iowa State, Wisconsin and Vanderbilt
