After becoming academically ineligible at Tennessee State and returning home to Tampa last year, Jarrold Gunn will return to the ranks of college football next fall at Division II Carson-Newman College in Jefferson City, Tenn.

The former Middleton High lineman got his grades together at Hillsborough Community College but he says it was tough watching his friends head off to school last fall while he stayed home. But he says he was always confident he would return to the sport he has played at the varsity level since his freshman year of high school. And with the support of his family, he’s made it back.

Oddly enough, Carson-Newman is where his dad, Carlton Gunn, played in 1983 when the school won a NAIA national title. And believe it or not, the same coach his dad played for—Ken Sparks—is still there heading the program.
