Following a visit to the Spartanburg, S.C. campus, Gulf quarterback Madison Burr gave Wofford College a verbal commitment to play football at the Football Championship Series (NCAA Division 1-AA) school, according to Buccaneers coach Jay Fulmer.
Burr, a first-team athlete on the Tribune’s Pasco County all-county team, passed for 855 yards and 10 TDs, rushed for 749 yards and 8 TDs and had 191 receiving yards. Fulmer said Burr was recruited as an athlete but expects him to compete for the quarterback position.
Also, fullback Will Burbridge plans to visit Jacksonville University in the next few weeks and linebacker Darryl Cooper has earned his qualifying ACT scores and is expected to attract some attention, Fulmer said. The trio joins Leon Orr as recruited players for Gulf. Orr graduated in December and began attending classes at the University of Florida on Jan. 5.
