CDS Prep will start the season at full strength, as Coach Lane McLaughlin said sophomore Deuce Gruden, one of the Patriots’ most versatile athletes, will play Friday against Cambridge Christian.
Gruden missed the team’s Kickoff Classic last week against Mount Dora Bible while nursing a hamstring injury. McLaughlin said Gruden, who starts on both sides of the ball, won’t see any action on special teams.
“We’d have to fight him physically if I didn’t play him,” McLaughlin joked.
This is the first meeting between CDS Prep and Cambridge Christian, and McLaughlin thinks it could be the start of a rivalry between the schools.
If anything, “I guess it will be for some bragging rights in the city for (Class) 1B schools, considering there are only two of us.”
