Tampa Bay coach Jon Gruden just concluded his Monday morning press conference and finding another fullback seems to be priority number one.
FB Byron Storer suffered a knee injury during Tampa Bay’s victory against Carolina, and with B.J. Askew still recovering a hamstring injury, the Bucs might be in the market to sign a fullback.
“We’re in trouble at fullback,” Gruden said.
Gruden used Earnest Graham at fullback and said there was a possibility of using one of his tight ends against Seattle this week. There is also a possibility Tampa Bay will try to sign a free agent.
Former Bucs fullback Mike Alstott is going to be honored at this Sunday’s game and Gruden even joked about trying to persuade him to come out of retirement.
“I might talk him into playing … maybe we can talk him into giving it one more shot,” Gruden said.
Gruden also said WR Maurice Stovall (hamstring) is questionable for this week’s game.
One of Tampa Bay’s bright spot so far has been its defense.
The Bucs are the only team that has not allowed a rushing touchdown this season. Tampa Bay also has not allowed an individual rusher to gain over 100 yards.
Gruden credited Tampa Bay’s success to its red zone defense, an area in which he wanted to see improvement prior to this season.
To nobody’s surprise, he once again reinforced that QB Jeff Garcia is this week’s starter and did not want to elaborate on if that will be Tampa Bay’s game plan for the entire season.
Lastly, RB Cadillac Williams is eligible to come off the Physically Unable to Perform this week and practice with the team, but Gruden did not anticipate that happening right away. Gruden said Williams would continue to work out privately and was unsure when, or if, Williams would return to practice.

You joke now about playing Alstott after retirement, when you wouldn’t play him when he WAS playing.
Good one,Ha Ha Funny…Not.
And if you expect Carnell to be back at ALL this year, wake up and smell yourself,he’s nothing more than a get’em healthy and make some trade bait for next year guy…..IF..
Thanks for the great game yesterday MONTE!!!!
GO BUCS!

Maybe when Griese is healthy, he’ll put him at fullback so he can look for another quarterback.

Phil, shut up idiot, he played him incessantly because of the fans bitching, even when it was counter-productive. I hate people whi really don’t remember the facts straight then make up their own to fit.

Hey HARDHAT…..go back to pittsburgh and leave the BUCS to us real Tampa Bay fans…..Gruden single handedly ruined Alstott’s last few years….any other “normal” coach would have used him correctly.

Earl, I agree with HardHat. Yeah, everybody loved Alstott, but his last few years were unproductive. The Bucs couldn’t release him, because the fans would mutiny. I think he was being selfish and hurtingthe team by refusing to retire.

That is a great Idea! Bring Back Mike Alstott. Can you Imagine when we show up in Dallas. Mike Alstott FB,Garcia-QB,Galloway wr,Antonio Bryant wr, C Williams at RB with Graham backing up Alstott, and Dunn backing up Williams. What finally an Offensive Firepower show, GO Bucs and back to the playoffs and maybe Tampa Host the Superbowl with the BUCS playing in it.

I think Graham is our best fullback, even when BJ is healthy. I wanted to see Zuttah at fullback, but now he is our Left Guard. I don’t see Sears getting his job back soon. Sears has not played as well this season. He has been good, but has been beat a few times. Zuttah doesn’t get beat. He is the Beater, but would make a good fullback and has decent speed. Graham also likes playing on special teams, so you might as well let him do that too. The more Graham plays(any position) the better our chances of winning. You can always give him the ball. So keep your Jameel & your Lorenzo & your 4 fried chickens & your dry white toast, because we’ve got Earnest the Great!!!
