University of South Florida starting quarterback Matt Grothe did not practice Monday because of the right foot injury suffered during Saturday’s win against Connecticut. However, Grothe is expected to start at North Carolina Saturday, USF coach Jim Leavitt said.
Grothe suffered sprained ligaments on the top of his right foot in the second quarter against UConn, but returned later in the quarter to lead USF to the 38-16 victory. Grothe had his right foot in a protective boot Monday and X-rays were negative.
