TAMPA – QB Brian Griese’s absence from offseason workouts and the start of this week’s Bucs minicamp has raised some eyebrows, but Griese’s absence is well justified.

It turns out that Griese is at his home in Denver tending to his wife Brook, who is eight months pregnant with the couple’s second child.

RB Earnest Graham is missing from today’s workouts, too, but he’s attending to a family matter. The other absentee is LT Donald Penn, whose absence is so far unexplained.

griese and graham arent the ones we were worrying about it is donald penn whos absence is “far unexplained.” its much more imperative that a young starting LT learns a completely new zone blocking scheme then it is for a veteran backup QB that has played in a similar system or a still injured RB. plus penn hasnt signed his tender which means he isnt technically part of the team. just what we need is another need this year. i just hope they resolve this soon because even though penn is average, we have so many other needs and no other guy who can play LT on this team.

I don’t consider it justified at all. Truck drivers & cooks still go to work when their wives are expecting. This guy is getting paid a fortune to play for the Bucs. A chance to become familiar w/ a new OC & new system, & Griese is blowing it. I hope he gets cut.

Dang, glad I’m not a cook or truck driver(btw comparing them to football players is hiliarious).
Griese is a veteran and this system(?) is supposedly much less complex than Gruden’s, which Griese had grasped and was sucessful with. Not worried about his intelect in picking up scheme or playbook.
Penn well, eh!
