Former USF QB Grant Gregory will again serve in the role as a back-up - at least in Kansas State’s opening game against UMass.
K-State coach Bill Snyder named Carson Coffman the starter over Gregory, who transferred to Kansas State this summer after getting a sixth-year of eligibility.
“It really wasn’t the easiest decision,” Snyder said Tuesday. “I think both of them have made improvement. They are really beginning to get the big picture, which is obviously very vital for a quarterback. I think they both still have room to grow. It has been competitive up to this point in time and I think Grant (Gregory) will respond appropriately and it will continue to be competitive.”
Gregory came to USF in 2005 from Indiana. He backed up Matt Grothe the past three seasons at USF. After graduating and getting a sixth-year of eligibility because of a medical hardship, Gregory initially was going to transfer to Division I-AA Eastern Kentucky. However, he changed his mind when Snyder told him he had a chance to be the Wildcats’ starting quarterback.
