A sly grin grew on the face of King quarterback Greg Windham Friday night.
He was asked about his 96-yard touchdown run in the Lions’ 14-6 win against Wharton. An inference was made to his deceptive speed and without skipping a beat, Windham noted: “I got a little bit.”
The play was a veer designed go up the middle in the hands of the running back, but Windham saw a loss of containment on the right side of the offensive alignment on the play and ran to daylight.
“Everybody just crashed in and I saw the end zone,” Windham said. “My offensive line, they blocked tremendously tonight. I’m very proud of them, They’re pretty young, but I’m just so proud of them because they came a long way and they were just blocking their behinds off tonight.”
Windham finished the night with five carries and 123 yards. The senior also added 113 passing yards, including a 31-yard scoring pass to tight end Kim Jackson.
Back to that blazing speed.
“That was all me,” he said laughing. “I knew I had it. Nobody knows I can run like that. I had to prove it.”
