Berkeley Prep senior Tyler Greathouse went from 50th place at the first mile to fifth place at the finish of Friday afternoon’s 3.1-mile Mountain Dew Invitational cross country meet in Gaianesville.

Greathouse was the area’s top finisher. He covered the 5 kilometers on the hilly University of Florida golf course in 16 minutes, 23 seconds. The boys winner was Miami Belen Jesuit sophomore Elliot Clemente, who ran 16:00. Taking the team title was Orlando Dr. Phillips, which scored 72 points.
Chamberlain High, which needed special permission from the Hillsborough County public school district to compete during this weekend’s Jewish holiday, took ninth place out of 38 teams. The Chiefs’ top finishers were senior Mark Parrish, who was 13th in 16:42, and sophomore Max DelMonte, 17th in 16:46. Berkeley was 10th in the team standings.
The area’s top female performer was Berkeley’s Gigi Price, 38th in 21:26. As a team, the Bucs’ girls were 15th. The girls team champion was Lakewood Ranch, which scored 95 to beat Winter Park by 13 points and third-place Sarasota Riverview by 43. The girls’ individual winner was Shelby Hayes of Winter Park, who went 19:00.
