TAMPA - Chris Simms may not be the only Bucs quarterback who rival teams have little or no interest in trading for.
The Bucs appear to have at least floated Bruce Gradkowski name in trade talks during last weekend’s draft. Obviously, no one took the bait.
The attempt to move Gradkowski comes as no great surprise. The Bucs have a logjam at the quarterback position that only got worse when they drafted Josh Johnson in the fifth round out of San Diego on Sunday. It’s no great surprise that no one bit on Gradkowski either.
The Bucs were expected to draft another quarterback, thus expanding their glut of them to seven, if you count Jake Plummer. As a result, anyone who really would want Gradkowski, Simms or maybe even Luke McCown knows it will have a shot at them later this summer, when one or more of them is let go.
The Bucs have already said they have plans to bring just five quarterbacks to camp and with Jeff Garcia, Brian Griese and Johnson sure to fill three of those spots, one from the group of Simms, Gradkowski and McCown is likely to be moved before camps opens.
Of course, if the Bucs really wanted to alleviate the logjam they could probably move Griese. Word is the Bucs received several inquiries about Griese’s availability during the draft. The Bucs apparently made it clear, however, that they have no interest in letting Griese get away a second time.

Bye Chris. You are a nice kid and your dad was great in NY. Thanks for trying hard and looking sharp in a Bucs uniform. Take care and enjoy the rest of your life as a spleenless male model.
PS
Dont worry about football you’ve done all you could do.

Dan Shreve, can you please re-write your last post in English? I have no idea what you were trying to say.

WHY DID WE DRAFT A QUARTERBACK? GRUDEN LOOKING TO FIND A BRADY IN THE DOLLAR STORE ? I THINK HE’S TRYING TO PROVE THAT HE KNOWS TALENT. HE PROVED THAT WHEN HE DIDN’T SEE THAT HE HAD A RUNNING BACK WITH TALENT ON THE TEAM WITH E.G.

DAN, How can you say or what have you even seen that Simms is the best QB on the team?Greise has even done alot better job then he did. I think Greise done a good job here in Tampa,he played behind the same Oline that Simms did.Garcia is still the man time for Simms to move on. Your right he might have better luck with someone else. Trade Simms/Clayton and our 3rd round pick next year to Miami for Jason Taylor. MAKE IT HAPPEN!!!!!!
Come on Parcells, Simms you know Phill’s son.

For someone tall, it sure is pathetic that Simms couldn’t get the ball over the D-line in critical situations. Other than a few dumb moves, McCown looked pretty good. Get rid of Bruce and Chris. Let McCown and Griese fight it out for the 2nd spot and Johnson can spend a year on the practice squad.
Simms never had a chance? The guy had more batted passes/attempt than any QB I’ve ever watched. I like his arm strength and composure in the pocket, but that’s it. He can’t run and he can’t get the ball over the line. His accuracy isn’t the best either.

And Dan, Simms hasn’t even played in almost 2 full years. And last year, he couldn’t even remember how to throw the ball and was inactive the entire years. What makes you think that he can turn it around now and even compete for a roster spot? And you say he was never given the chance? He was given a 2 year contract coming off of his surgery in 2006, that doesn’t sound to me like they didn’t want him back.

Simms is the best QB on the team???? Maybe back in 2005 & 2006, but he’s not even in the same class as Garcia. In 2006, he was pittiful. Batted balls, interceptions, no mobility, etc. I don’t know if you remember, but I do. I was a big fan of Simms, but let’s face it, he’s not a good fit for this offense.

Let’s sign Major Applewhite to back up Chris Simms.

Simms is the best QB on the BUCS team. He never had a full chance. He brought them to the playoffs and was one dropped ball from advancing. The next year, the OLINE stunk and he lost a spleen. The BUCS will fully regret his loss, it will prove to be Steve Young all over agin.

Here’s our legit QB’s:
Starter: Garcia
Backup: Griese/McCown
Project: Johnson
Release: Simms/Gradkowski/Plummer
No reason to have 5 QBs. I like McCown as a backup better than Griese. Griese is insurance in a bind. Gradkowski is Toast. Simms is burnt toast.

How can teams consider a value on Chris Simms without seeing him workout? He is not legally free to visit other teams and there are no stories of the Bucs evaluating, or even talking to Chris since his return from I.R. He is obviously frustrated with being ignored by Gruden/Allen, so what is he supposed to do? Is he throwing balls somewhere to get rid of the rust on his own? How about someone doing some reporting out in the field instead from the bar-room desk?

Hey Kinder, do a little research on Josh Johnson before you make stupid comments. He was worth the 5th round pick. He may not make the team this year, but this kid has talent, and he played in Gruden’s system at San Diego (as many of the coaches were on Grunden’s staff in Oakland). He’s accurate, fast (4.5 40), and doesn’t thrown interceptions (45 tds to 1 int last year). What’s not to like about him?
