Good for the Wood: Jones back at practice

He’s still not quite 100 percent, but Armwood’s star running back and University of Florida commitment, Matt Jones, was back sprinting, cutting and even making contact at Wednesday’s practice.

Jones received a high ankle sprain after making a touchdown catch that sparked the Hawks to a 17-14, come-from-behind victory Friday over Gainesville. He has seen little practice time since and only worked to rehab the ankle at Tuesday’s training session. With that and continuing therapy from Hawks trainer Denise Andresky, the 6-foot-2, 225-pound Jones was looking more like his big, strong self Wednesday.

With Jones and fellow senior Wade Edwards in the backfield, Armwood is a much stronger squad offensively. The Hawks face arguably the best team it’s seen since it’s season opener against host Las Vegas Bishop Gorman on Friday at home against St. John’s Bartram Trail in theClass 6A state semifinals.
