There was no shortage of gold-medal winning performances from Hillsborough and Pasco County wrestlers during Saturday night’s FHSAA Wrestling Finals.
Eleven wrestlers combined between the two counties won individual state crowns at The Lakeland Center.
Six of those title winners - Rossi Bruno, Kevin Norstrem, Tyler Liberatore, Clark Glass, Joe Cozart and Henry Chirino - were Brandon wrestlers, helping the Eagles win the Class 3A state title. It was the 10th consecutive year Brandon won a team state title, and the 21st title in program history.
Gulf also produced multiple-title winners in Anthony Ayers and Ladarious Jackson, and that helped the Bucs win the Class 1A team title. It is the first title in program history and the first wrestling team title captured by a Pasco County program.
Other state title winners included Tampa Bay Chrisitian’s James Flint, Tampa Prep’s Wes Jarrell and Durant’s T.J. Davis.
