Tallahassee Godby senior Joe Franklin just turned in a nation-leading 800-meter run time of 1 minutes, 48.97 seconds at the All-Class Showdown track and field meet at Melbourne Holy Trinity. Taking third in that race was Jesuit junior Connor Revord, who clocked a lifetime best of 1:53.48.
Franklin, who is headed to the University of Tennessee, moves to No. 2 on the all-time Florida list and No. 1 in the United States for prep runners this outdoor season. The former leader was Blake Shaw of Houston, Texas, who has run 1:49.41. Taking sixth in the 800 at Melbourne was Durant’s John Mitchell (1:56.6) and seventh was Jesuit’s Logan Trimble (1:57.9).
Revord says he will likely run in next month’s Golden West meet in California, as well as the Nike Outdoor Nationals in North Carolina.
