Glazer: Bucs expect season opener vs. Detroit to be blacked out

TAMPA – With ticket sales still “slow,’’ the Buccaneers are expecting their season opener against the Detroit Lions to be blacked out on local TV, co-chairman Bryan Glazer said Friday.

During an interview on with Steve Duemig on 620 AM, Glazer said ticket sales for the team’s nationally televised games against Indianapolis and Dallas are outselling other games at this point but that the threat of blackouts throughout the season remains possible.

“We’re just trying to be honest with the fans when we talk about how we expect the game to blacked out next week,’’ Glazer said. “We just want to be realistic and not put expectations in people’s minds. We’ll comunicate with the fans if we (think that’s going to change) but at this point we don’t expect that to happen.’’

One thing fans can expect to happen is for more $35 tickets to be made available for the Detroit game. Glazer said the team was in the process of adjusting some ticket prices to enhance sales for the Lions game.

“We are in the process of adjusting some tickets and making more $35 tickets available for the Detroit game,’’ Glazer said. “If they’re not on there today (Friday), be patient, give us a couple of days, we’re working with ticketmaster to make those adjustments.’’

Glazer said $35 individual game tickets are currently available for all Bucs home games on ticektmaster.

Better get use to blackouts. With the price of going to a game closing in on the National Debt,People just can’t afford to go. When I moved here from up north 11 years ago, almost all of our home games were blacked out.

I’m sick and tired of people saying that Bucs tickets are so expensive. $35 can get you in the door. A MOVIE is getting close to $10. You don’t know what you’re talking about SUNDOG49. 11 years ago would put you right smack-dab in the middle of a sell-out streak that lasted from 1997 until last year. 2000 was the year right after the Bucs JUST MISSED the Super Bowl thanks to the Bert Emmanuel Catch/Non-Catch. The games WERE NOT blacked out.

“Glazer said the team was in the process of adjusting some ticket prices to enhance sales for the Lions game.”

I’m a 14-year season ticket holder.  When am I going to get an “adjustment” on my $99 ticket price???

Again, season ticket holders like me are getting royally screwed.

The NFL should not have a blackout rule.  I don’t think it would mean less ticket holders if they didn’t.  With a bad economy, people cannot afford the extra luxuries, like attending a game.  It has nothing to do with ticket prices.  I even had to give up going out to a see a movie and other entertainment since becoming unemployed, so it is just not the games.  If the NFL lifted their blackout rule, I think more people would attend games when their means allowed.

By the way, just looked at what you get for your $35.00.  The worse seats in the house, way up high in the corners and facing the sun.  So if you want to get a bargain at a Bucs game, you’ll barely see the game and might end up with heat stroke.  That sounds like a bargain to me.  Get a retractable dome stadium.  September and most of October are brutal in Florida.

Heyitsadam, I wasn’t talking about the Buc’s market. I said,“where I came from, up north”. Besides, are you going by yourself? I think you’ll find after you total everything up, you’re looking at over $200 for two people.

So what you’re saying, Sundog, is if you’re buying more than one ticket… it’s more expensive? Are you nuts or do you just have a hard time expressing yourself? That’s not meant to be an insult, it’s a legitimate question…. nothing you’ve said has made any sense.

Heyitsadam, I think it’s you that has a hard time expressing yourself. $35X1=$35. $35X2=$70. Is that not more? Who goes to a game alone? If you are talking about going with friends that are paying their own way, that’s fine. I’m talking about a family outing where all the money is comming out of my pocket.

No problem expressing myself… you’re a nimrod. I just re-read all of your posts and what I basically get from it is the following:

1) You moved to Tampa Bay 11 years ago.
2) You said that when you moved here, all the games were blacked out. (they weren’t)
3) Ticket prices are outrageous (the Bucs are one of the 5 cheapest tickets in the league).

I have 3 seats: me, my wife, my best friend. My BF writes me a check in June for his seat. My wife works, too. I’m not footing the bill for a bunch of people. I pay for mine, my wife’s income offsets hers, and my friend pays for his.

Maybe if you went to school and studied a little harder, you could join us in person to see the most popular sport in America.
