Plant High baseball standout Mychal Givens earned MVP honors Sunday afternoon at the 2008 Under Armour All-America Game after helping Baseball Factory defeat Team One 5-4 at Wrigley Field in Chicago.
Givens, a shortstop/right-handed pitcher, contributed to Baseball Factory’s victory both at the plate and on the mound. He had two hits and three RBIs, and later struck out two in a scoreless seventh inning, his only inning on the mound.
This was the second national all-star game this month for Givens, who on Aug. 9 helped the East defeat the West in the Aflac All-American Classic in Los Angeles. Prior to that game, Givens was named the recipient of the Jackie Robinson Award, which is given annually to the nation’s top rising senior baseball player.
Riverview High baseball coach Bill Leiby also was at Sunday’s Under Armour Game and served as an assistant coach.
