Former Robinson High track star Darrin Gibson, who recently completed an impressive freshman season at Florida State, advanced to the finals of the 800-meter run at Thursday’s USA Junior Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa.

The 800 finals will be contested Friday at 2:40 p.m.
Gibson, a state champion for Robinson in the 800 his senior year, qualified fifth Thursday in 1 minute, 50.74 seconds. The top qualifier was Penn State freshman Casimir Loxsom, who ran 1:48.79.
Gibson’s personal best this spring for the Seminoles was 1:48.73. After graduating with honors from Robsinson and among the top 10 percent in his class, Gibson chose to major in biology at FSU.
