Griffin (Ga.) High tight end Ty Turner has given a verbal commitment to USF, Griffin coach Steve DeVoursney confirmed Thursday.
Turner, whom DeVoursney said is about 6-foot-2.5 and weighs 245 pounds, also had offers from Western Kentucky, Marshall and Western Carolina and was receiving some interest from Tennessee, according to the coach.
“He’s a big, athletic kid. I think they’re looking at him playing that heavy H for them, that fullback/tight end type,” DeVoursney said. “Good hands, a good athlete, a basketball kid also. I think he liked (assistant) coach (Steve) Shankweiler a lot down there, and they liked it a lot down there, both he and his family. He went to one of their camps this summer.”
