No. 7 Florida opened its baseball season Friday night at home with a 6-2 victory over the University of South Florida. Junior Josh Adams helped lead the Gators to victory, batting 3-for-3 with four RBI.
The Gators took a quick lead in the first inning, knocking in four runs from two homers, one by Adams and the other by freshman Austin Maddox. Maddox finished 2-for-4.
Despite the fast start to the season, the Gators see plenty of room for improvement.
“We’re getting used to playing with each other,” Adams said. “Our energy was high out there, and it was our first game. Not everything is rolling like it should be, but we are going to come out tomorrow and everything will be fine. The first homer felt good, and I had goose bumps running around the bases. It’s just one of those things to spark the team and had us going a little bit. It was nice to come out in the first game and do that.”
The Gators will try to pick up where they left off tomorrow in the second outing of a three-game series against USF.
