After a couple thousand people attended the second annual Gator Golf Challenge last year, the University of Florida will hold it again June 30.

The event aims at raising awareness for six charities: American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, March of Dimes, Ronald McDonald House, Shands Cancer Hospital and STOP! Children’s Cancer. Pledge cards will be available on the West Concourse of Ben Hill Griffin Stadium for fans to have an opportunity to donate.

The event is free and open to the public, and spectators will get a chance to see the 2010 Gator football team challenge each other in a series of strength competitions. The squads will break down into six teams, competing in three head-to-head events.

Mickey Marotti, director of strength and conditioning at UF, said the competition is ideal for families.

“Each year there has been an increase in awareness and attendance,” he said, “and we are eager to see it grow in both capacities this year.
