Feeling better but still not well enough to throw a football, Bucs quarterback Jeff Garcia said he’s still not sure he’ll be able to play Sunday when the Bucs take on the Saints in a critical NFC South matchup in New Orleans.
“I’m feeling a little better today; I’m taking some better steps today than yesterday, [but] I’m not at a point now where I can even throw the ball yet,’’ Garcia said during his weekly radio call-in segment on WDAE, 620 AM.
When asked whether he would be able to play Sunday, Garcia said, “I still can’t say that. I hope to be out there and do my thing, but that’s going to be coach’s decision.
“I was definitely feeling a lot better today when I woke up this morning. That was a positive sign right there, but I’m not going to put the organization or myself in a bad situation if I can’t move.’‘
Garcia said he is still receiving treatments on his back, which he injured during the first play of the Bucs’ game Sunday against Washington at Raymond James Stadium.
Garcia returned late in the game but was ineffective. He said he does not believe he’ll be ready to practice on Wednesday, so it appears the Bucs will spend the week preparing a reserve to start.
Bucs coach Jon Gruden refused to say Monday whether he would start second-year pro Bruce Gradkowski or fourth-year pro Luke McCown should Garcia be unable to start.
Gradkowski replaced Garcia on Sunday but was ineffective.

If Garcia can’t go, I say we install a wishbone and go with direct snaps to EG and Bennett!!! Alright…maybe not!
If Garcia is no-go, then maybe its time to give McClown a shot! Couldn’t be much more ineffective than Gradkowski

If he can’t go then we might just as well keep the team home and get ready for Houston!!!!

It’s hard not to be disgusted watching Gradkowski play when we saw Rattay throw several touchdowns against Chicago and Cleveland last year and then we didn’t resign him. Gradkowski is at best a “Field Goal Machine” (look at the Philly game last year/a game we actually WON-FIELD GOALS).
Why does Gruden have to have his little scramblers play the same style of football?
Will Simms not be a decent back-up to Garcia next year because he is a pocket passer and is left handed (even though he went 5-1 in the division as a relief starter). “Oh but wait a minute, he’s not Gruden’s STYLE of player!” I guess Montana and Young (left handed QB) shouldn’t have played on the same team and won all of those Superbowls.

Don’t bring Jeff back until 0 healthy. Lets focus on the rest of the year. Play the odds and play smart Jon. So give some GAME TIME EXP to Luke.

Bruce is a bum and if Jeff is still hurt then i think we should just go with Luke. Where going to the playoffs this year and we need Jeff to be healthy. Theres no way in hell that Luke is worse than Bruce is. He probably should of been intercepted on sunday, and he underthrew Galloway on sunday that could of put the game away. I think our best bet is to put Luke in because he has throwing power and i know that he’ll be able to get one f**king 1st down against the Saints defense.

Even after a full season demonstrating the contrary, Gruden has an inexplicable belief that Gradowski will evolve into an elite NFL quarterback. Good young quarterbacks have innate talent that reveals itself under pressure- see Cleveland Browns Derek Anderson.
Come to think of it how about attempting to acquire Brady Quinn from Cleveland?

The Saints are not a good team no matter how bad the national media wants them to be. There defense is terriable thus the reason they are 5 and 6. If Mckown or Grad can do enough to keep the defense honest we can win this game with Graham and without Garcia. May not be pretty but if we can win who cares. GO BUCS!!!

A win at this game gives us a 4 game lead in the division with 4 games remaining on the schedule. A loss means we split and are only 1 game ahead. Answer, do what ever we need to do to win. Play a hurt Garcia and he can have the next 4 games to rest, play Luke, bring in Matt Grothie or someone call Steve Deberg…Anything will be better than Bruce. If it is Bruce, everyone should support him and ralley around him.

I’d feel much better with McCown than Gradkowski. We really need to look into getting a quality QB here either through the draft, trade or free agency. I love Garcia, and what he brings to the team, but he is 36, and not the biggest guy in the world, and he runs with reckless abandon. I just don’t think he is durable. I don’t know if Simms will be back up to par next year, so Chucky needs to be looking around, and seeing what’s available, like now!

give B G the start he did just as good as gracia in that game ,garcia came back did no better than it appeared he was going to do when he went out ,the o line needs to step up there pass protection period ,or we are doomed ,P.S give stovall some playing time this is galloways last here ,we need a replacment

PLEASE go with Luke. Bruce Gradkowski is horrible and might only get better on another team in a year or two a la Young, Testaverde, Dilfer, etc. And please don’t rush Garcia back - let him heal for the final stretch.
I also hope that was a joke about Brady Quinn…

Folks, if Garcia does not play the Bucs have no chance against Da Saints. Do you remember what this Saints team did to the Yuks last year? It wasn’t pretty, and it will be the same Sunday. How the Yuks won last Sunday after being dominated is a mystery. See you Sunday.

if the bucs have to win with defense and field goals, so be it…its no secret that the saints are going to stuff the run and force ‘ski to beat them in the air…short patterns with simple check-downs will defuse the big easy’s game plan…no time to panic #5 will be fine…line up bennett outside ala r. bush and force them to cover him with a linebacker…this is the same team that couldn’t beat houston or st. louis (at home)...bucs win 15-9…

I agree with the writer, Its time that Coach Gruden give the other QB a chance. Just think If the other QB shocks Saints Sunday. With a win Tampa bay would have a 3 game win under their belt. I think Coach Gruden could devise an offensive scheme that would benefit everyone. With the Defensive getting hungry each week. I think short passes and running the ball at the throats of the Saints. I believe it would break down the Saints Defenses Line as well as the Offensive lines. Iam in Dallas, But I think Tampa will win this game with the other QB if Garcia can’t Go.Not the one from Toledo.

By wednesday there needs to be a decision made on who we are going to go with at QB against the Saints. Wether it’s Bruce or Luke, I don’t really care, but whoever it is needs to get all the snaps with the #1’s the rest of the week. I wouldn’t mind seeing what either of those 2 can do with a full weeks preparation. If Garcia isn’t close to 100%, I don’t think there is any way that we can risk getting him beaten up any worse. As for the Saints. They have no running game, so our fastly improving D-line should be licking their lips for this one. Galloway will get loose again on these corners just like last time they played.

Bruce has had his opportunity, lets see what COOL HAND LUKE brings to the offense!

If garcia can’t go,and by that i mean don’t rush him in because we need him 100% the rest of the way,the O-Line needs to step it up like they’re playin in the Superbowl and let Graham,Pittman,Bennet and Askew pound the football.Jon will gameplan this just fine. The best thing to do is not panic and let’s see what the rest of the team can do to make Jeff proud.I believe this team has a lot of talent to overcome this and let’s put a positive on this game.I believe Bruce is giving 100% but i do like Mccowns accuracy but no matter who is behind center, the other 10guys need to help step it up and with our Defense we should beam with pride going into the superdome and show them what a champion can overcome!!

I also wanted to ad that this team i believe can handle this and show the the rest of the NHL,and in particular the NFC,this actually could be our finest hour!GO BUCS

Once again…even if next Sunday we lose we are still up 1 on NO and then with Garcia rested and healthy we run the table… Falcons, Houston and Panthers and make the playoffs…this is playing the odds and making the smart move!
PS Luke can throw and scramble even if he doesn’t get your system.

I think it is apparent that Gradkowski has not improved since last year. He is still dreadful. Go with McNown for no other reason than he’s NOT Gradkowski and it’s hard to believe he could do worse.
Suggest removalPor (richard knight) on November 28, 2007 (Suggest removal)
Gruden pretty much admitted during recent press conference that playing Gradkowski at QB is what got them all of their decent draft choices that they are playing with this year..I would personally like to see some film of Gradkowski hitting an uncovered Galloway on the post route during practice…his long ball (over 15 yards) sucks…Gruden and Allen thru away last year to grab draft choices..I will be AMAZED if he puts this playoff caliber team in the hands of Gradkowski…Give Luke a shot, Bruce showed us last year how poor he is in the passing dept, didn’t you see how disgusted that Joey was during the Skins game with Gradkowski at QB…the team knows that they have a snowballs chance in hell of winning with Bucco Bruce at QB!
