Galloway pronounces himself fit for duty

TAMPA—Veteran WR Joey Galloway said he has recovered fully from off-season surgery to repair a left shoulder injury that rendered him ineffective in Tampa Bay’s playoff loss to the Giants.

“It’s fine, it’s ready to go,’’ the 36-year-old speedster said following Thursday’s OTA session. “I have a lot of confidence in our medical staff here. It was pretty smooth and the rehab was pretty smooth.’’

Galloway injured his shoulder at San Francisco Dec. 23 and he was limited to only one catch for nine yards two weeks later in a 24-14 loss to the Giants that ended Tampa Bay’s season.

Galloway’s fourth career postseason game left him thoroughly frustrated before he underwent surgery to repair some tearing in the labrum and rotator cuff.

“It would be hard for me to explain,’’ he said. “A lot of people saw the exchange between me and coach (Jon Gruden) at the end of the game and sort of made that into something between me and him—when really it was something between me and myself. I was disappointed in the way it ended. To have to go into the biggest game of my career and not be able to go the way I wanted to is sort of hard to put into words. To have it end the way it did is tough to explain. You have to deal with it and move on. I knew it (shoulder) wasn’t going to be good leading up to the game. The way you can go to bed at night is if you can look back and say I gave it everything I had. I gave it what I had and it wasn’t good enough.’’

QB Jeff Garcia, entering the final season of his two-year deal, continues to participate in the voluntary OTA sessions, while expressing dissatisfaction with the pace of contract negotiations.

“We all understand the business of the game,‘’ Galloway said. “As much as you see in the papers about what he’s saying, Jeff’s out here working as hard as anyone, so it hasn’t disrupted anything we’ve done on the field. We know he’s a winner and how badly he wants to win. He realizes it’s sort of a two-sided coin. It’s part business and it’s part that you have to come and play the game. He’s been here every day and worked extremely hard.’’

Galloway was asked what would happen if Garcia fails to report for training camp in seven weeks.

“We would be disappointed If he’s not there, but we would understand if he’s not there,’’ Galloway said. “As far as changing the offense, we’ve shown since I’ve been here that we’ve played two or three quarterbacks a season. I don’t know who would be the second or third guy, but whoever it is, we will go about our business the same way we always have.’’

Sounds good, Galloway seems to be alright.  They need to fix Jeff’s contract really soon.

What’s there to fix? Garcia signed a contract that no-one else would even have offered. Honor your contract d!ck. Even if we decide to give him something more, any moron knows to wait through training camp with someone this old; he may hurt himself.

Anybody can say what they want to say about Garcia. The fact is the man is our best QB right now, and if we want to win this season we need to give him a few extra dollars. Whats the big deal? The man is only going to play one more year anyway than he’ll probably retire. He is just asking for a few more dollars. Whats wrong with that? Yes he signed a contract and he was screwed out of his incentives he could have gotten. Talk about rapeing somebody d*&n !!! Bruce Allen is the rapeist.

Ok look no one here is saying that Jeff Garcia is a bad qb and what was done to him was not fare but we only know what the press and the media tells us , and as far as him being the best QB we’ve got this is true saddly but true , i love my Buccaneers and i can only hope it all works out but we all have been here before nothing is for sure any more these days.

Neo, in one hand I hold the red pill, Jeff Garcia.  In the other the blue pill, Luke McCown.  Choose the blue pill and you will spend a little money and win next year.  Take the blue pill and be a cheap ##### and go 6-10.  Choose wisely, the fate of the Bucs 2008 season lie in your hands.

Next we visit the Oracle….

Your such a nerd…

For those of you who don’t understand please rent the Matrix and then slap yourself.

Wait a minute….I mixed up the pills…You got the idea…We need to make Garcia happy, make up for the money he was screwed out of last year and give him a vote of confidence and most of all a little R…E…S…P…E…C….T….believe it or not it not all abou the money with Jeff.  He deserves a logical contract for his last two years.  Sign him to a three year deal ($2-$3M sign. bonus).  The last year wont count of course….Becuase what is the alternative folks?  Hey Trent Dilfer is available….How’s that sound?  All the sudden Garcia is a steel, right.

The fact that Joey remains a pure athletic specimen is dumbfounding. Great to hear he’s ready to roll. Garcia had a great year and I love him as a Buc, but something tells me that, given the opportunity, Luke would excel as the starter ... hard to say about Garcia’s money situation; sure he missed out on some incentives, but to give him a fat deal at the end of his career seems to be a bad business idea.

Why is there always some annoying ##### Falcon and Saint fans stirring a bunch of bull crap here on the Bucs blogs??
Don’t you guys have your own site to talk a bunch of crap about? You guys are just a bunch of pest. I’d rather be nibbled by a crab then hear your input on anything. Save your comments for on game day and see how much crap you talk about when we take you out!!

Fernando from Lakeland thinks Jeff should honor the contract he signed. The team needs to do the right thing and pay him his money. Most of the snaps he missed last year weren’t related to an injury, but the team attempting to rest him for the playoffs.

Go back to following soccer so we don’t have to read any more comments from the peanut gallery.

NFL player contracts are not guaranteed, that means management can end it at any time and only be responsible for the remaining amount of the current season.  If a player under performs they may not ask to renegotiate the contract for a lower amount, but the team will cut him, thus get out of the contract.  That is why players ask for more when they outperform their deal.  It’s a two way street.

Erik, you must not be the sharpest tool in the shed.  Stevens contract has nothing to do with Garcia’s, I am sure the bucs would be MORE than willing to give the same contract to Garcia today.

I’m glad to see that Galloway is coming back.  I think he will have his best season ever.  I’ve been watching him a lot on film.  There is no doubt that he is one of the all time great wide receivers in Tampa under Gruden the past few seasons.  I think if he continues to practice hard, eating right and taking lots of metamucil he will be able to stay healthy.  I was a little worried when i saw the lining of his depends showing through his uniform last year, I hope they get that corrected.  Anyway, go Bucs.  We love you always and forever.

Ok i feel compell to tell those who use this for bashing other people and use it as an excuse to a fu??ng as???? as far as Garcia goes he is a good QB not great QB and he makes the bucs that much better when he is on the field and ready to go ,but understand that he got one year and thats given a GIANT mirracle that he doesnt drop dead on the field this year and i just dont know how the GM can give money to a player that is a GIANT gamble , i love my bucs and i dont want to live through another loosing season we need action now so either pay him or cut him!!

Por (todd) on June 09, 2008 (Suggest removal)

NEO,

I vote to pay him !! So we can win some games. Or else just loose big this season and have some awesome draft choices next season. Either one sounds good to me. We are suppose to have alot of picks in the draft next season. I think it’s suppose to be like 9 picks. And if we can get a very early pick that would be great. This is where we could probably load up on our offense.

im sorry people but i am so tired of gruden and dumb allen . i miss the managment of mckay and dungy . these guys have ruined this franchise from top to bottom and this season will be worse than o6. i think its time to call for grudens head he needs to be fired along with bucco bruce allen.

Joey, sorry we can’t get a QB that can throw you the ball in stride. Hopefully Dexter Jackson’s speed and elusivness get showcased this year to give you some relief. Thanks for being our 1,2, and 3 wideout at times(like the last 3 years for instance).
