Through the first two weeks of the season USF has had four members of its 2011 recruiting class see the field, with receivers Andre Davis and Ruben Gonzalez and fullback Tye Turner making their debuts against Ball State and defensive tackle Elkino Watson playing in both games this season.

A fifth freshman, offensive lineman Darrell Williams, is now headed for playing time this season as well. Williams is likely to make his debut Saturday against Florida A&M.

“I would really love to have the opportunity to redshirt (him), but right now when you sit down and look at the value he can bring this football team I really think we need to turn and pull the redshirt,” Holtz said. “We need to put him in at tackle, we need to give him some reps and we need to let him play.”

Barring injuries, Holtz said those will be the only five freshmen to play this season.
