Freedom graduate Katie Luker, who earned honorable mention all-Hillsborough County track and field honors from the Tampa Tribune the past three seasons, has received preferred walk-on status for the George Washington University cross country team, Patriots coach Dwight Smith announced.

Luker was part of two Freedom relay teams that reached the state track championships this season, the 4x400 and 4x800. She showed her range of speed and endurance with personal bests of 2 minutes, 25.72 seconds for the 800 and 20:42 for the 5k in cross country.

According to Smith, Luker will be the first Freedom graduate to run women’s cross country in college.
