Freedom head coach Tchecoy Blount is hopeful senior quarterback Dominic Marino will be available to play Friday against King.
Marino was taken out of the game during the second quarter against Riverview last Friday after he sustained a mild concussion on the field. Blount said Marino showed signs of memory loss on the sideline.
“He’s going today (Monday) to get it checked out,” Blount said. “The trainer said to hold him out seven days before he can play in another contest. I’ll make sure we evaluate his playing ability.”
Freedom went on to win, 20-6.
Meanwhile, East Bay coach Brian Thornton received good news regarding starting free safety Bryant Warnock and running back Dante Evans. Warnock and Evans were taken to South Florida Baptist Hospital by ambulance following the Indians’ 21-0 loss to Plant City. Both players were released after being diagnosed with no serious injuries late Friday evening.
Warnock, who was taken from the field by stretcher with a right knee injury, was injured in the second quarter on a special teams play. Evans had nine rushes for 40 yards in the loss and was able to leave the field under his own power, but was taken to the hospital after the game with a possible concussion. Thornton said he was negative for a concussion.
The Indians have a bye this week but return to action against Spoto in Week 3.
Thornton said Warnock could have a leg infection, but should be cleared to play.
“I believe so,” he said.
