Freedom first-year football coach James Harrell has applied for the head football coaching position at Jesuit.
Harrell has repeatedly said during multiple conversations with the Tribune this week he’s only talked to Jesuit officials and has yet to receive an offer. He also said he informed Freedom administration.
This past season, Harrell guided the Patriots to the Class 5A region quarterfinals and a 7-3 record, the best in program history. Freedom lost to Countryside in the quarterfinals, 17-7.
Harrell, a former NFL linebacker, previously served as an assistant coach at Jesuit. What will be interesting is if Harrell’s son, Anthony Harrell, can transfer to Jesuit. Anthony, a Division I recruit, is a junior linebacker at Freedom but Jesuit does not allow students to transfer in after their sophomore year.
