Four Florida players named to freshman All-America team

Florida placed four players on the Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America team named Wednesday and selected by Collegiate Baseball. It was the highest total in school history.
 
They included shortstop Nolan Fontana, pitcher-designated hitter Brian Johnson, third baseman Austin Maddox and pitcher Hudson Randall.
 
Fontana, a second-team All-SEC pick, is hitting .287 with 52 runs scored. Johnson is hitting .411 and has a 6-4 pitching record. He also named the Gainesville Regional’s outstanding player. Maddox, the SEC’s freshman of the year, is hitting .339 with 17 home runs and 68 runs batted in. Randall is 8-3 this season with a 2.97 earned run average.
 
The Gators (45-15) host No. 11 Miami (43-18) in NCAA Super Regional best-of-three series play starting at 7 p.m. Friday. The winner advances to the College World Series.
