Former Rays hitting coach Steve Henderson was named the minor league outfield and baserunning instructor for the Phillies.
Henderson served as the Rays hitting coach during the past four seasons but was let go in October. He spent 13 years as a coach for the Rays, serving as the hitting coach for the 1998 team and the organization’s minor league hitting cooridinator for the next eight seasons before joining the major league staff.
Also joining the Phillies organization is Lance Carter, who saved 26 games for the Rays in 2003 and represented the team in the All-Star Game that summer. Carter was named the pitching coach for Williamsport (Phillies) in the Short Class A New York-Penn League.
Carter spent four seasons with the Rays, going 13-10 with 27 saves in 165 relief appearances.
