If you notice a familiar face in the University of Hawaii’s women’s softball team dugout tonight during the NCAA Women’s Softball World Series on ESPN, its because you’re looking at former Plant standout Katie Grimes, the starting catcher for Hawaii.
Grimes and the Rainbow Wahine will face UCLA in the second round of the double elimination World Series tonight. Hawaii defeated top-seed Alabama in the Super Regionals to advance to their first ever World Series and on Thursday, beat Missouri, 3-2 to move on.
At Plant, Grimes helped the Panthers win three consecutive district titles and was named to the 2006 Class 5A All-State team.
