Former Jesuit football coach applies for Freedom job

Former Jesuit football coach Joe Ross is one of 22 people that have applied for the Freedom head football coaching position.

How interesting is that? Ross, who resigned after five seasons in January, is applying for the job that was made available when James Harrell left Freedom to become Jesuit’s new coach two weeks ago.

This past season, Ross led the Tigers back to the playoffs following a two-year absence and finished the season 9-2.

Former Leto head coach Hugh Dehnert, who also resigned in January, is also one of the applicants. In his four years as the Falcons’ head coach, Dehnert compiled a record of 10-29. Leto went 2-7 this past season. Another notable applicant is former Riverview head coach Dan O’Regan. O’Regan, who took over the Riverview program in 2003, went 32-20 during his tenure, 5-5 in his final season, and led the Sharks to a playoff appearance in 2005. He resigned from the position in 2008.
