Former Chamberlain star Aycock arrested

Former Chamberlain High star quarterback Dontae Aycock, the winner of the Guy Toph Award as Hillsborough County’s top football player in 2008, was arrested last Friday on charges of domestic battery and criminal mischief totaling less than $200, a Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office arrest report shows.

Aycock, 20, was arrested early Friday morning by the Tampa Police Department. Details of the arrest were not immediately available. After his booking, Aycock spent Friday in jail and was released Saturday afternoon on his own recognizance.

After producing nearly 3,000 yards of total offense and scoring 45 touchdowns his senior season at Chamberlain, Aycock signed with Auburn in February of 2009. After a redshirt season there, Aycock was dismissed from the Tigers’ football program for an unspecified violation of team rules in May of 2010.

Later that year, Aycock switched to the University of South Florida. He had to sit out that season because of NCAA transfer rules but was placed on scholarship as a running back at USF in the spring of 2011. Just before the start of the 2011 campaign, Aycock decided to leave the team. At the time, Bulls coach Skip Holtz said Aycock wanted to concentrate on earning his USF degree and that Aycock didn’t “feel like football is in his heart.”
