Former University of South Florida football standouts Matt Grothe and Amarri Jackson will get the opportunity to continue playing professional football in the Tampa Bay area, as both were among a handful of players re-signed by the Arena Football League’s Tampa Bay Storm this week.
Jackson had a huge first season with the Storm, finishing with franchise rookie records for receptions (125), receiving yards (1,619) and touchdown receptions (35). Grothe joined the Storm late in the season but did well while appearing in the final two games, completing 29 of 58 passes for 440 yards and 10 touchdowns and leading Tampa Bay to a season-ending victory over San Jose in his first AFL start.
The Storm featured a handful of former Bulls in 2011, with defensive lineman Jarriett Buie, receiver Huey Whittaker and linebacker/fullback Terrence Royal among the group. Grothe and Jackson are the only two thus far who have re-signed with the team.
