For now, Rays plan to play Tuesday

Rays president Matt Silverman just announced that as of right now, Tuesday’s Rays-Angels game is on as scheduled.

The Rays will continue to evaluate the progress of Tropical Storm Fay and there still may be a postponement—which, if it happens, likely would come early tomorrow afternoon.

“Certainly, the circumstances can change,” said Silverman. “We will continue to monitor the storm and its progress, we will continue to consult with government agencies as well as the Angels and the league. If the storm continues its current track and the road conditions are safe, we will play the game as currently planned.”

If tomorrow’s game ultimately must be postponed, it sounds like the plan is to make it up as a doubleheader Wednesday, though it has not yet been determined whether that would be a split day-night doubleheader or the traditional single-gate variety.

One potential complicating factor: Wednesday’s game is supposed to be televised by ESPN2, which might make it harder to pull of a traditional doubleheader.
