After the University of Florida soccer team won its first two games, junior Tahnai Annis capped off week No. 1 with the Southeastern Conference Offensive Soccer Player of the Week.
The forward scored two goals Sunday night against No. 25 Central Florida - the only goals for the Gators in their shutout victory.
They both came within five minutes of each other. The first came in the 48th minute on a rebound from eight yards out.
”Composure was definitely something that went through my mind when I saw the ball. I took a deep breath just before I shot it,” Annis said. “I didn’t want it to go high or wide.”
The second came on a sliding kick from 10 yards at the far post. Sophomore Erika Tymrak fed a slow roller into the box to find Annis.
“Erika played in a great straight ball because I was already making the run. I knew that if I tried to take another touch on it, that wouldn’t work out because the defender was right on me,” Annis said.
Annis leads the team with two goals and four points.
This is Annis’ second SEC Offensive Player of the Week award. She won it once last season.
