Florida had 11 of its football recruits enroll early to start class this month including West Palm Beach Dwyer’s Matt Elam, a safety recruit who switched to Florida State but came back to the Gator fold during the Army All-American Game last Saturday.
Others included two of Elam’s prep teammates - wide out Robert Clark and tight end Gerald Christian - along with cornerback Jaylen Watkins, defensive end Neiron Ball, quarterback Trey Burton, defensive back Jordan Haden (brother of Gator All-American safety Joe Haden, who has announced his intentions to leave after his junior season for the NFL), defensive tackle Leon Orr, wide out Solomon Patton, defensive back Joshua Shaw and offensive lineman Ian Silberman.
By enrolling early, UF will be able to include part of the class on last year’s signings. The Gators currently have 23 commitments but hope to sign the SEC limit set this year of 28. National signing day is in early February. Florida currently has the nation’s top recruiting class in several rankings. School officials are not allowed to comment publicly on recruits, per NCAA rules, until they have signed letters of intent.
