Talk about a tough way to end the regular season.
The Bulls lost on the final play of the season when Connecticut kicker Dave Teggart drilled a 42-yard field goal as time expired, giving the Huskies a 29-27 win to close the season.
USF will find out Sunday where it is headed for a bowl game.

Horrible loss, yet again.
USF is the most underachieving program in Division I.
This is a travesty as they have the stadium, facilities, recruiting base, recruits, and alumni in place to do some great things.
That leaves one glaring aspect holding it all back; this team is totally out coached nearly every game.
They will never win a Big East title and never play in anything besides a who cares bowl game until they make a change in the head position. Period.

A couple of things stand out to me in the immediate aftermath of the game:
1) Why do teams consistently kick short in those situations? Time and time again the other team starts in good field position.
I just don’t get it.
2) USF is a hard team to figure out…I had them losing this one pretty easily, and they hang close…I had them hanging close with Miami, and they were never in the game.
Anyway, I’ll have indepth thoughts later, but heading out of press box here at Rentschler Field to get somewhere a little warmer.
Thanks for checking in and leaving a comment.

Quit being negative about your coach. If it weren’t for him, you would still be small-time. From what I can tell, he does all he can. Hes a good, passionate coach. There is talent on the USF field, but is there heart within that talent? That is the question I would ask.

We screw up and kick short because we have terrible players on special teams. When we find good special teams players, they fall off the skyride at Busch gardens and fracture vertebreas, so we go with plan B, and there is a BIG dropoff to the second string.

Wow, fstaff. Most underachieving team in the country? I think that goes to Notre Dame. They’ve had top 10 classes for the last five years, much better facilities, far greater tradition, and a weaker schedule.
USF is still building. A big setback this year with Grothe being injured. I believe the offense would have looked much different with him at the helm. Daniels made huge strides from the beginning of the season to the end. Only graduating 6 of the top 44 players on the team.
Disappointing season, for sure. But the future is still bright. Rome wasn’t built in a day

You have to admit it, Randy Edsall and company knew exactly what they were gonna get from us and we STILL pulled ahead in the last minutes. I loved the late rally to take the lead in a cold weather night game that nobody expected us to be able to compete in, much less retake the lead in the final minutes. Our special teams cost us this one at the end, and our defense played a little too soft after the short kickoff and allowed Uconn to get into field goal range. Aside from that, USF played a great game and should be proud of how they did. Our coaches had this team READY for UConn, and UConn was the ones huddled around the heaters!

JoeP: bullseye. You are only disappointed when you have high expectations and fall short. Most people did not expect us to win against Uconn, and did not expect us to play well in the snow and 34 degrees at kickoff in a night game. but we were able to retake the lead in the final minutes. Great game; it’s a shame either team has to lose one like that, and this time it was us. We’ll get ‘em next year.

This is season summary. The Bulls need to vastly improve their defensive secondary. They played soft all season. The Bulls never put a lot on pressure on the passer. They were hesitant to blitz.Together this allowed opponents to stop Selvie and Joseph-Paul.Keep in mind in Selvie’s sophomore season, the Bulls had Steven Nicolas,Patrick St. Louis,Ben Moffett at lb, Trae Williams and Mike Jenkins at CB.Another thing imagine Matt Grothe and BJ Daniels in the backfield at the same time. They could have run the wildcat and created difficulties. Special teams ,get someone you can boom it in the endzone consistently, same on punts(hopefully Bonani). With BJ ,the future is bright but fix the defense and special teams.

I was really proud of BJ. He played to his strengths and seemed more poised than he has been all year. Hopefully we can get him some playmakers on offense and some unmovable studs on defense to make all this work.
And oh too, some special teams that are really special.
Are you listening Santa?????
