Louisville came to Tampa and grabbed at least a share of the Big East Conference title on Friday afternoon, coming from behind in the fourth quarter to defeat USF, 34-24, at Raymond James Stadium

The loss was the sixth in the last seven games for the Bulls (5-6, 1-5 Big East), who now need a win in the regular season finale Thursday against West Virginia just to get bowl eligible.

Louisville (7-5, 5-2) trailed 24-20 entering the final quarter of play, but the Cardinals twice took advantage of a short field to score touchdowns.

After a 17-yard punt from USF’s Justin Brockhaus-Kann that gave them possession at their own 43, the Cardinals marched 57 yards in nine plays for a go-ahead touchdown with 9:38 remaining. Louisville converted on fourth-and-inches in the red zone to keep the drive alive, and quarterback Teddy Bridgewater connected with a wide open DeVante Parker for an 11-yard score that put the Cardinals ahead 27-24. It was one of three touchdown passes on the day for Bridgewater.

Later in the quarter, USF receiver Andre Davis lost a fumble at the Bulls 17, and two plays later the Cardinals converted into a touchdown, with Dominique Brown running 9 yards for a score to make it a 34-24 game with 4:12 left to essentially seal the win, the first regular season triumph for Louisville in the state of Florida since 1972 and the first in five games at USF.

Why is there any discussion about a bowl game?  Unless there’s a Toilet Bowl somewhere, this team does not deserve to play in a bowl game.  Not even close.  Shut up about it already.

Whether USF deserves a bowl game or not, a victory Thursday vs. West Virginia would make Bulls eligible for one. That is an undisputed fact, which is why it is included. I didn’t make rules that say .500 teams deserve to play in postseason.

Jeez, a bit sensitive are we?  I don’t care what the rules are.  The Bulls do not deserve to play in a bowl game.  Period.

You asked a question why I made a reference to a bowl game. I explained why I included it, and the facts on how teams are eligible. That is all; no emotion in my response. In all honestly, I’m sure there are plenty of people who share your opinion.

I think you mistook my intention.  I wasn’t quesioning why you wrote about bowl eligibility in the article.  It was just a rhetorical question about why anybody would consider the Bulls a bowl team.  I think we can all agree that this season has been a huge disappointment for all.  And don’t get me started on the Buccaneers, lol.  Not much cheer in Tampa land this year as far as football is concerned.  Sigh . . .

Obviously seems like there was some confusion between us reptaddict, but look on the bright side - it only took us six posts to clear it up. smile
