NEW YORK—There was no stirring second-half comeback this time against Georgetown.
The first half wasn’t much better, either, for the USF men’s basketball team in Wednesday’s 69-49 loss to the Hoyas in the second round of the Big East Tournament.
Georgetown seized control of the game early behind the play of guards Chris Wright and Jason Clark, who combined for 19 first-half points to put the Hoyas up by 12 at the half.
USF closed to within six in the second half behind Dominique Jones, but the Hoyas pulled away down the stretch as USF continued to struggle from the outside.
USF was 0-for-8 from 3-point range until Shaun Noriega’s 3-pointer in the final minute accounted for the Bulls’ final points. USF was 0-for-8 from behind the arc in Tuesday’s first-round win against DePaul as well.
Trying to knock off Georgetown for the second time this season—USF defeated the Hoyas 72-64 on the road Feb. 3 behind a strong second-half comeback—the Bulls never could get it going Wednesday.
The loss likely sends USF (20-12) to the NIT, which would extend USF’s streak of missing out on March Madness to 19 seasons.

No. 1: Congrats to usf on a phenomenal turnaround with 20 wins and 10-10 in the Big East. One or two losses kept us from the Big Dance (St. Johns and/or Central Mich).
No. 2: What a horrible performance today. There is no way that the NCAA committee can put them in after the way that they played today (F.G.% below 30%) and Georgetown scoring at will inside (and outside). I only feel better when I realize that G’Town thumped Duke and Villanova in the same week.
I will definitely be pulling for usf to make it back to Madison Square for the NIT Final 4.

I’ll take the NIT. How long has it been since we’ve seen the basketball team make any post-season tourney? Maybe they can win the NIT, that’ll help Stan Heath with recruiting. Something to the extent of, you are the missing piece we need to take the next step.
I’m proud of my Bulls, now time to root on the baseball team!
