Fifth Annual Wharton Invitational Girls Soccer Tournament begins Tuesday

Wharton will host its fifth annual Wharton Invitational Girls Soccer tournament beginning Tuesday. The five-day tournament begins with Seminole taking on East Bay at 4:30 on Tuesday and closes with the championship game on Saturday at 5:15.
Newsome has taken the tournament title the past two seasons with the Wolves defeating the host Wildcats 2-1 last year. The Wolves went on to finish as the 5A state runner-up and the Wildcats were district champs and 6A region semifinalists.
Joining East Bay, Newsome, Seminole and Wharton in the eight team tournament field is last season’s 4A state champion Steinbrenner, region semifinalist Tampa Catholic, district champions and 5A region quarterfinalist Freedom and Clearwater Central Catholic.
The opening round matchups are:
Tuesday
Seminole v. East Bay, 4:30
Wharton v. Tampa Catholic, 6:15
CCC v. Steinbrenner, 8:00
Wednesday
Freedom v. Newsome, 7:00
