The Florida High School Athletic Association will give Christian schools the option to play region quarterfinal games on Tuesday or Thursday as long as the schools agree and the FHSAA is notified, FHSAA spokesperson Corey Sobers said.
In an email sent to the FHSAA and obtained by the Tribune, one local Christian school administrator, Scott D. Burkett of Bayshore Christian, wrote that many Christian schools have church activities on Wednesday’s, causing a conflict for some schools that were scheduled play next Wednesday in the Class 2A state volleyball region quarterfinals.
When the FHSAA expanded classifications to eight to include rural schools, Christian schools previously belonging to Class 1A were moved to 2A. This year, Class 1A, 3A, 5A and 7A will play on Tuesday while 2A, 4A, 6A and 8A will play on Wednesday.
In a response to the letter from FHSAA executive director Roger Dearing, Dearing said the FHSAA is working on making a flexible schedule for next week.
