Remember that minor scuffle that took place during the final seconds of the Class 3A state championship game between Jefferson and Miami Norland?
To refresh your memory, with 3 seconds left in the fourth quarter, Norland attempted a two-point conversion after a touchdown but the pass was incomplete. After the play, a Jefferson player and a Norland receiver got into a shoving match and wrestled each other to the ground near the Jefferson sideline. In the end, two Jefferson players and three Norland players were ejected.
Jefferson won, 44-34.
The FHSAA did issue a few penalties because of the incident.
According to spokesperson Corey Sobers, Jefferson was fined $415, received a letter of reprimand and the football program was also placed on administrative and restrictive probation through the end of the2011-12 school year. Sobers also said all Jefferson student-athletes participating in football have already completed an approved FHSAA Sportsmanship Program.
Sobers said two Jefferson athletes were suspended and those suspensions would carry over to the 2011 season, but Jefferson athletic director Bob Morgan said those athletes have served their suspension and/or graduated.
