TAMPA - The Bucs contacted former fullback Rick Razzano on Friday morning as the organization looks to find a replacement for Mike Alstott, who went on the injured reserve list and may not play again.
Razzano was on Tampa Bay’s seventh-round draft choice in 2005 and the practice squad last year. He declared for free agency after last season, and is currently a sports trainer.
“We have been contacted by the Bucs. I spoke with Bruce Allen [Bucs general manager] this morning,” said Richard De Luca, Razzano’s agent. “We hope to get an opportunity there. The Bucs are currently weeding through their options, but he is on the radar.”
Razzano (5-foot-11 and 250 pounds) was a good prospect out of college, but had several off-field incidents, including assault charges after a bar brawl and a four-game suspension for violating the NFL’s substance-abuse policy, tarnished his short stint as a professional football player. However, Razzano owned up right away after the NFL announced he was suspended four games. He issued a statement, apologizing to his team, his family and fans, saying he took a banned substance before joining the team. He was also forthright in discussing a bar fight that occurred and led to a trial, which ended in a hung jury.

Why not give this former buc player another chance. Look at BJ the fb that came from the NTJets. He has some problems. So give this player who knows the system. Tampa must get this FB position. I am glad that Mike Alstott didnot hurt himself any worse. I hate a fine young man on and off the field suffer anymore. I really believe he will make the right decision to retired when he decides. When I do come to Florida or watch Tampa away from Florida I will always wear my #40 white jersey. I think he will be a hall of famer when he retires.

Razzano is no replacement for Alstott. Let Alstott retire at the end of the season and collect his salary; he’s earned it.
